But what does colorful and candid photography actually mean?
For me, it's pretty simple: I want your photos to feel like you. Natural moments, real connection, lots of personality and plenty of color.

What Is Candid Photography?
Candid photography focuses on capturing natural interactions and genuine moments rather than making every photo feel perfectly posed.
That doesn't mean you're completely on your own in front of the camera!
I'll give you direction, help you find flattering positions, and use simple prompts to get you moving and interacting naturally. The goal is to create opportunities for those genuine moments to happen.
Think laughing together, walking hand-in-hand, movement, little glances, and all of those in-between moments you can't necessarily plan.
What Makes Photography Colorful?
I LOVE color.
My photography and editing style embraces the colors that are already part of your session instead of muting everything down.
Minnesota gives us some pretty incredible natural backdrops for colorful photography. We have lush greens during summer, blue lakes and skies, colorful fall leaves, spring blooms, and even bright white snow during winter.
I want those colors to feel like part of your photos.
The goal isn't to make everything look overly saturated or unnatural. I want skin tones to look natural, scenery to feel true to the moment, and colors to feel bright and alive.
Colorful. Natural. Full of personality.
Do Candid Photos Mean No Posed Photos?
Not at all.
There's definitely still a place for the classic everyone-looking-at-the-camera photo.
We'll get those.
But your entire gallery doesn't need to look that way.
Some of my favorite photos happen immediately before or after the "official" photo—the laugh afterward, the way you look at each other, the movement, or the moment you forget there's a camera pointed at you.
Those are often the images that end up feeling the most personal.

Family photos don't have to mean standing perfectly still and smiling at the camera for an hour.
We'll create opportunities to move, interact, laugh, and actually enjoy your time together. I'll still guide you throughout the session, but I'm also watching for those little moments happening naturally.
The result is a gallery that captures what your family looks like and a little bit of what being together feels like.

The same approach works beautifully for couples and engagement photos.
You don't need to show up knowing how to pose or worrying about whether you're "photogenic."
We'll walk, move, laugh, and give you things to do so you're not constantly thinking about the camera.
Whether we're taking photos in a field, exploring somewhere around the Twin Cities, or heading out onto a Minnesota lake for a boat engagement session, I want the experience to feel relaxed and fun.
